The No. 12 Florida State Seminoles closed out their series against Clemson with a decisive 6-3 victory, securing another ACC series win on the road. The win improves FSU's record to 36-15 overall and 17-10 in conference play, with a 10-9 mark away from home.
The Seminoles jumped out to an early lead in the second inning when Nathan Cmeyla launched a solo home run to put FSU on the board. Carter McCulley followed with a single to left field that brought Ben Barrett home, making it 2-0. John Stuetzer capped the inning with a sacrifice fly, driving in Cal Fisher to extend the lead to 3-0.
McCulley struck again in the top of the fourth with another home run, pushing the lead to 4-0 before Clemson finally got on the scoreboard. The Tigers scraped a run across in the fifth when Jack Crighton reached on a fielding error, allowing Jarren Purify to score and cutting the deficit to 4-1.
FSU responded quickly in the sixth, with Stuetzer singling to bring Barrett home once more and making it 5-1. Clemson answered in the bottom half of the inning when Jason Fultz Jr. reached on a dropped fly ball with two outs, and two FSU errors allowed the Tigers to close within 5-2.
The Seminoles added insurance in the eighth when Brody DeLamielleur singled, scoring Stuetzer to make it 6-2. Clemson mounted a final push in the bottom of the eighth when Purify singled, bringing Jacob Jarrell home, but the score remained 6-3 heading into the ninth.
FSU finished with 15 hits, including two home runs, but left plenty of runs on the table, going just 4-for-23 with runners on base and 3-for-15 with runners in scoring position. Still, the pitching held strong. Bryson Moore earned the win, allowing just one run over six innings, while Brodie Purcell closed the door with four outs to notch his third save of the season, striking out three and walking one.
The Seminoles now turn their attention to a pivotal regular-season-ending series against their rivals, the Miami Hurricanes, starting Thursday. Fans can catch the action on ACC Network Extra at 6 p.m. ET as FSU looks to extend its winning streak and build momentum heading into the postseason.
