Big news out of Gainesville: Florida basketball and head coach Todd Golden have locked in an international talent, officially signing Slovenian forward Domen Petrovic on Monday, May 4. The 6-foot-9 prospect brings a versatile skill set to the Gators' lineup, fresh off an impressive season with GGD Sencur in Slovenia where he averaged 16.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game—shooting an efficient 57.4% from the field and a sharp 39.5% from beyond the arc.

Petrovic isn't new to high-level competition. He previously shared the court with current Florida guard Urban Klavzar at the 2024 FIBA U20 EuroBasket, helping Slovenia claim a silver medal while averaging 9.7 points per game. That international chemistry could pay dividends for the Gators as they continue to build a roster with global depth.

"We are really excited to welcome Domen into our program," Golden said in the announcement. "He is a very skilled forward that has great positional size. He has shown incremental improvement every year, and he's currently playing the best basketball of his young career. He is a high-achiever both on and off the court and will help us continue to raise the bar here at Florida!"

Petrovic joins Lithuanian forward Arturas Butajevas as Florida's latest international signees—a recruiting strategy Golden has leaned into since taking over. The Gators have been one of the biggest winners of the transfer portal this offseason, retaining key pieces like forwards Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh, who led the team in scoring last season. Starting guard Boogie Fland is also returning for his third year, while center Rueben Chinyelu is testing the NBA draft waters but could still come back. Florida only lost reserve centers Olivier Rioux and Micah Handlogten to the portal.

At 22 years old, Petrovic brings maturity and upside. With his size, shooting touch, and international experience, he has the tools to develop into a college star for the Gators. For fans looking to rep the next wave of Florida basketball, this signing is one to watch.
