Change is in the air on Florida's high school football scene this spring, and the latest shakeup comes from the Northeast region of the Sunshine State. While most head coaching vacancies have been filled across Florida, Riverside High School in Jacksonville is now searching for a new leader after Antwan Nicholas announced his resignation—right in the middle of spring practices.

Nicholas, a proud alum of the school (formerly Lee High School), shared the emotional news on social media Monday. "With a heavy heart I announce my resignation as head football coach at my alma mater," he wrote. "This program, these young men, and this community have meant everything to me. I'm grateful for every player, coach, administrator, and supporter who poured into what we built together. It was never about one person—it was always about US."

The Generals are currently in the thick of spring ball, with a spring game against Ponte Vedra scheduled for May 21st. Nicholas leaves behind a program that saw its best season in 2023, when Riverside posted a strong 9-3 record. However, the last two years have been tougher, with the team winning just seven games total. In 2025, the Generals finished 3-8 and ranked No. 185 in the state according to the final Florida High School Football Massey Rankings.

Riverside High School has long been a pillar in the Jacksonville community, known for its strong academics and competitive athletics. The Generals field teams across multiple sports, with football and basketball leading the charge. The school's emphasis on both academic and athletic excellence has made it a respected name in Florida prep sports.

For fans keeping tabs on the ever-changing landscape of Florida high school football, this is a reminder that the offseason never truly sleeps. Whether you're tracking coaching moves, spring game results, or gearing up for next season, the action across the Sunshine State is always worth following.
