Florida football adds JUCO cornerback Javier Jones to its 2026 roster, bringing depth to the Gators' secondary.

The Florida Gators are making moves to strengthen their secondary for the 2026 season, securing a commitment from junior college cornerback Javier Jones. The 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back is expected to enroll with the program next week, according to a report from On3's Hayes Fawcett.

Jones joins the Gators after a stint at Independence Community College in Montgomery County, Kansas, where he recorded 12 tackles and five pass breakups. The Phoenix, Arizona, native adds valuable depth to a cornerbacks room that already features returning starters Cormani McClain and Dijon Johnson, along with rising sophomores Ben Hanks III and J'Vari Flowers. All four players showed promise during spring practices, but head coach Jon Sumrall is looking for more consistency from the group.

"Not consistent enough for my liking for us to be a championship-type football team," Sumrall said. "We ain't there yet, but there's been some flash. But flash doesn't win long-term. Flash might make a play, and then makes a play for the other team, too. So we've got to be a lot more just down-in, down-out reliable."

Jones is the second player Florida has added to the roster since spring practices ended on April 12. Last week, the Gators secured a commitment from former Jacksonville University basketball player Jaylen Jordan, who at 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds is transitioning to play tight end. Jordan participated in UF's Pro Day last March but returned to school after not being selected in the NFL Draft.

With this latest addition, Florida continues to build depth and competition in its secondary—a key area of focus as the Gators aim for championship-level play. Whether you're a fan tracking roster moves or just love the game, it's always exciting to see new talent join the fold. And for those looking to rep their team, there's no better time to gear up in Gators apparel as the 2026 season approaches.
