After two formative seasons on the Plains, Golden departed for an assistant head coach role at the University of San Francisco, a stepping stone that eventually led him to the helm at Florida.

Their relationship, however, stretches back even further. Long before they worked together, Golden played for Pearl on the USA Open Team at the Maccabiah Games, teaming up with Pearl's son, Steven, who is now an assistant coach at Auburn.
