In a stunning upset at Barradão, Flamengo's Copa do Brasil campaign came to a crashing halt on Thursday (14) as they fell 2-0 to Vitória, losing 3-2 on aggregate in the fifth round. The reigning Brazilian and South American champions were left shell-shocked after squandering their first-leg lead.

Vitória wasted no time leveling the tie, striking just six minutes in. Erick unleashed a rocket from outside the box that curled into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Rossi with no chance. The early goal electrified the home crowd and set the tone for a tense evening.

Flamengo struggled to find their rhythm against a disciplined Bahian defense. It wasn't until after the half-hour mark that the Rio side began to threaten, using wide attacks to test goalkeeper Lucas Arcanjo. Luiz Araújo came closest with a thunderous strike, while Evertton Araújo and Bruno Henrique also forced saves, but the equalizer remained elusive.

The second half followed a similar script: Flamengo dominated possession and created chances, with Carrascal and Bruno Henrique keeping Arcanjo busy. But just as Rossi denied what looked like a certain goal from Renê, Vitória struck a devastating blow. Luan Cândido connected with a volley in the box to double the lead and complete the comeback on aggregate.

Shaken by the goal, Flamengo struggled to mount a response. Their best late chance came in the 41st minute when Arcanjo produced a brilliant stop to deny Pedro's shot almost on the line. It was a night where nothing went right for the favorites.

For Vitória, this victory marks a historic moment as they advance to the round of 16, awaiting the CBF draw to learn their next opponent. Flamengo, meanwhile, must now channel their focus entirely on the Brasileirão and the Libertadores, their remaining hopes for silverware this season.

Both teams return to action on Sunday (17): Flamengo visit Athletico-PR at Arena da Baixada, while Vitória travel to face RB Bragantino in São Paulo state. For the Rubro-Negro, it's a chance to regroup and prove their championship pedigree in the challenges ahead.
