The stage is set for one of Brazilian football's most anticipated clashes as Flamengo and Vasco da Gama prepare to lock horns in the 14th round of the Brasileirão. The fierce Rio derby kicks off this Sunday at 4 p.m. local time at the iconic Maracanã stadium, promising fireworks both on and off the pitch.

Flamengo enter the match riding high in second place with 26 points, looking to close the gap on league leaders Palmeiras (33). Vasco, meanwhile, find themselves in 13th position with 16 points, desperate to climb the table and avoid any relegation worries.

Flamengo boss Leonardo Jardim has reason to smile as defensive stalwart Léo Pereira returns to the lineup after missing the midweek Libertadores draw against Estudiantes due to a shin injury. However, the squad depth is tested with key absentees: Erick Pulgar, Lucas Paquetá, and Arrascaeta are sidelined through injury, while Carrascal serves a suspension.

Compared to their emphatic 4-0 thrashing of Atlético-MG in their last league outing, Jardim makes just one change – Luiz Araújo steps in for the injured Arrascaeta. The Flamengo starting XI reads: Rossi; Varela, Léo Ortiz, Léo Pereira, and Alex Sandro; Evertton Araújo, Jorginho, and Luiz Araújo; Gonzalo Plata, Samuel Lino, and Pedro.

On the other side, Vasco manager Renato Gaúcho faces a selection headache with Cuiabano, Jair, and Mateus Carvalho all unavailable. But he's not afraid to shake things up, making four changes from the defeat to Corinthians last round. Saldívia replaces Cuesta, Cuiabano comes in for Piton, Tchê Tchê slots in for Rojas, and Andres Gomez takes Puma Rodríguez's spot.

Vasco's confirmed lineup: Léo Jardim; Paulo Henrique, Cuesta, Robert Renan, and Piton; Cauan Barros, Thiago Mendes, and Rojas; Brenner, Andres Gomez, and David.

With both teams desperate for points and local pride on the line, expect a high-octane encounter at the Maracanã. For fans watching at home, the match will be broadcast on Globo (excluding select regions), GE TV, and Premiere. Will Flamengo's title charge continue, or can Vasco spring a surprise? The derby awaits.
