What was supposed to be a thrilling Copa Libertadores clash turned into chaos in just three minutes. Thursday's match between Independiente Medellín and Brazilian giants Flamengo was suspended almost as soon as it began at the Atanasio Girardot stadium, after furious rival fans caused mayhem in the stands.

The trouble started when members of DIM's organized supporter groups tore down and threw protective barriers that had been installed specifically to prevent protests. These barriers were located behind the goal defended by Flamengo goalkeeper Agustín Rossi, creating a dangerous flashpoint.

Referee Jesús Valenzuela had no choice but to halt play in the third minute as fans attempted to invade the pitch. Shortly after, he ordered both teams to leave the field for their safety. The atmosphere was already tense, with banners displayed reading harsh messages like "Conmebol, betting house" and "They turned the field into a cemetery. Dead!"

The Colombian club is in turmoil both on and off the field. There had even been a recommendation to play the match behind closed doors—a suggestion that was ultimately ignored. Local police were forced to cordon off the area where the organized supporters were gathered, but as of now, there is no indication the match will resume.

For Flamengo, this disruption is a major setback in their Libertadores campaign. The Brazilian side had traveled to Medellín looking to build momentum, but instead found themselves caught in the middle of a fan-fueled crisis. It's a stark reminder of how quickly passion can turn into peril in South American football—and why safety measures can never be taken lightly.
