Flagler College men's lacrosse made history on May 7, winning their first-ever NCAA Tournament game in dramatic overtime fashion. The Saints edged host Concordia 7-6 in Irvine, California, with junior midfielder Griffin Moore delivering the game-winner with just 1:29 left in the extra period.
The victory sets up a second-round showdown at South Region No. 1 seed Tampa on May 10 at 1 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Athletic Complex. For a program playing in its first NCAA Tournament, the Saints are showing they belong on the big stage.
Flagler (12-5) earned their tournament berth by winning the Gulf South Conference Championship last week. The defensive battle was knotted at 3-3 by halftime, and the Saints found themselves trailing 5-4 heading into the fourth quarter. Senior attack Trace McDonald came through in the clutch, scoring the equalizer with 6:03 remaining in regulation to force overtime.
The Saints will need that same resilience against a powerhouse Tampa team. For fans looking to show their support, Flagler's signature navy and gold gear is the perfect way to cheer on this Cinderella run.
In other Flagler postseason action, the women's lacrosse team—seeded No. 2 in the South Region—hosts St. Leo on May 9 at 7 p.m. for their NCAA Tournament opener.
