In a major recruiting win for Texas A&M, head coach Mike Elko and his staff have secured a commitment from five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, widely regarded as the top offensive lineman in the 2027 class. Matthews made his announcement live on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel on Friday, choosing the Aggies over powerhouse programs like Miami, Georgia, and LSU.
Standing as the No. 1 offensive tackle and the No. 5 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings, Matthews is also the top-ranked player from Florida. The Aggies have been building a strong relationship with him since extending a scholarship offer in January 2024, hosting him for multiple visits that helped them surge ahead of in-state rival Miami in his recruitment.
This commitment adds to an already impressive haul for Texas A&M, marking the fifth five-star prospect to join the Aggies under Elko. Matthews joins safeties Kamarui Dorsey and JayQuan Snell, offensive tackle Kennedy Brown, and cornerback Raylaun Henry in a star-studded class. With Matthews and Brown both five-star tackles, along with fellow offensive line commits Kaeden Scott and DeMarrion Johnson, Texas A&M now boasts the best offensive line recruiting class in the nation.
Matthews is the 14th commitment for the Aggies in the 2027 cycle, and every single commit is rated as a four-star prospect or higher. With five five-star pledges—the most of any program in the country—Texas A&M has claimed the No. 1-ranked recruiting class according to 247Sports. For fans of Aggies football, this is a statement that the program is building something special in College Station.
