In a major recruiting win for Notre Dame, five-star defensive lineman David Folorunsho announced his commitment to the Fighting Irish on Friday, choosing Marcus Freeman's program over a star-studded list of finalists that included Michigan, Miami, Georgia, and others.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound powerhouse from Chicago's St. Patrick High School is ranked as the nation's No. 2 defensive lineman and the No. 9 overall prospect in the Rivals300. His decision came during a live broadcast on the Rivals YouTube Page, adding to the excitement for Irish fans.
Folorunsho becomes the 16th commit in Notre Dame's 2027 class, which was already ranked No. 8 nationally by Rivals. He was recruited to South Bend by future defensive line coach Charlie Partridge and off-field ace Carter Auman, among others.
"I feel like it was the community aspect," Folorunsho explained. "The staff, Coach Freeman, Coach Partridge, and the overall community aspect and the life after football."
The connection to Notre Dame runs deep for Folorunsho, who visited campus twice in the fall. His high school head coach Tom Zbikowski, school president Dan Santucci, and personal trainer Kerry Neal all played football for the Irish—a legacy that clearly made an impact.
"The people that are around me," Folorunsho said. "I know what Notre Dame has done for them over their lifetime. Just knowing that, knowing everything Notre Dame offers, you can't go away from that. You can't turn that down."
He also praised head coach Marcus Freeman for his genuine approach: "You can tell he's a genuine person. He tells you how it is. How he coaches too. He's a leader of men."
Looking ahead, Folorunsho is eager to develop under Partridge's guidance. "You can tell he's a true developer. He's developed his guys to be the best player they can be. The relationship we've made over a short time together has been a great experience so far."
Rivals Director of Scouting Charles Power gave a glowing scouting report on the newest Irish star. "Twitched up defensive lineman with a rare combination of size and athleticism along the interior. Measured at 6-foot-3, 285 pounds with 34-inch arms prior to his senior season. Came onto the national scene following a breakout junior campaign. Plays all over the defensive line, lining up on the edge and inside."
For Notre Dame fans, Folorunsho's commitment is a statement—landing a top-10 national talent from a pipeline that includes Michigan and Miami is exactly the kind of recruiting win that builds championship foundations.
