Notre Dame is on an absolute recruiting heater right now, and the rest of college football should be on notice.

For the second time this week, head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish have landed a five-star talent. On Friday, defensive lineman David Folorunsho announced his commitment to Notre Dame, choosing the Irish over a star-studded list of finalists that included Miami, Michigan, Georgia, and Texas Tech.

Folorunsho, a Chicago native, is making waves as one of the most dominant defensive prospects in the 2027 class. Rivals ranks him as the No. 9 overall player in the country and the No. 2 defensive lineman nationally, while he holds the top spot in the state of Illinois. He now stands as the second-highest-ranked commit in Notre Dame's class, trailing only five-star offensive tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola, who committed just three days earlier.

The Irish moved quickly once they entered the picture, extending a scholarship offer to Folorunsho on Feb. 6. He took official visits to several programs this spring, but two separate trips to South Bend in April proved decisive. Those visits allowed Notre Dame to surge ahead in what was a fiercely competitive recruitment for one of the fastest-rising players in the nation.

On the field, Folorunsho showed exactly why he's so highly regarded. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound disruptor posted 56 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 6.0 sacks during his junior season at St. Patrick High School, setting the stage for his recruiting explosion.

Folorunsho is Notre Dame's 17th commitment of the cycle and the second along the defensive line, joining four-star edge rusher Aidan O'Neil. With 13 of those commits rated as blue-chip prospects, Rivals now slots Notre Dame's class as the fifth-best in the country. For a program that prides itself on building through the trenches, this week's haul is a massive statement.
