The final stretch of the regular season for spring sports in Pueblo is here, and all eyes are on baseball and track and field as athletes make their last pushes before postseason play.
Action has been heating up across the city, with standout performances at the John Tate Steel City Fast Track Invitational at Dutch Clark Stadium. Pueblo Central's Liam Martinez and Brody Renner showcased their teamwork in the boys 4x100 meter relay, while Pueblo County's Lily Nesbit and Juliana Cooper did the same on the girls' side. In the field events, Pueblo East's Esequiel Sandoval turned heads with a powerful shot put launch.
On the diamond, Pueblo West's JoJo Mendoza squared up against Pine Creek in an intense matchup, and Pueblo Central's Chase Swerdfeger delivered on the mound against Golden at the Runyon Sports Complex. Pueblo Centennial's Bryson Byrd made a sharp throw to first base against Pueblo County, while Pueblo County's Fonzie Maes took a confident swing against Centennial. The baseball season is coming down to the wire, and every at-bat counts.
Girls golf also saw impressive action, with Rye High School's Gloriana Ruiz watching her putt at the 15th hole during the Lady Eagle Invite at Walking Stick Golf Course, and Pueblo South's Rya Nardini teeing off at the Madeline Mellers Memorial Invitational at Hollydot Golf Course. On the soccer pitch, Pueblo East's Frenanda Herrera battled for midfield possession against Pueblo Central at Dutch Clark Stadium, and Rye High School's Nicoline Larson delivered a free kick against Banning Lewis Academy.
In volleyball, Pueblo South's Domanic Mondragon went in for a dig against Thomas MacLaren School, showing the grit that defines spring sports in Pueblo. Track standout Isaak Garcia of Pueblo Centennial also impressed in the boys 400 meter dash.
