The Vancouver Canucks have their MVP, and for the second straight year, the honour belongs to a defenceman. Filip Hronek has been voted by the fans as the 2025-26 recipient of the prestigious Cyclone Taylor Trophy, solidifying his status as the team's most valuable player this season.
This accolade comes on the heels of Hronek being named the Canucks' Best Defenceman, capping a remarkable year where he stepped into a vastly expanded role. Following the trade of former captain Quinn Hughes in December, Hronek elevated his game on both ends of the ice. He set a new career high with 49 points (8 goals, 41 assists), ranking second on the team in scoring, while also embracing a leadership role, wearing an 'A' and becoming a more prominent voice in the community and media.
Hronek's win continues a notable trend, marking the fifth consecutive season the Cyclone Taylor Trophy has gone to a first-time winner. He follows in the footsteps of Quinn Hughes (2025), J.T. Miller (2024), Elias Pettersson (2023), and Thatcher Demko (2022). More historically, Hronek becomes just the second defenceman in franchise history to be named team MVP, joining Hughes in that exclusive club.
The award underscores a season of exceptional individual performance and leadership for Hronek, who has firmly established himself as a cornerstone for the Canucks moving forward.
