WNBA star Caitlin Clark sustained a knee injury during her 2026 debut, an Indiana Fever preseason loss to the Dallas Wings, but expects to be OK.

Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark gave fans a scare during her 2026 preseason debut, but the All-Star guard is already brushing off concerns after a left knee injury forced her out of Thursday's 95-80 loss to the Dallas Wings.

The incident happened late in the third quarter at Indianapolis, with Clark driving the offense as usual. After catching a pass from forward Myisha Hines-Allen with about eight minutes left in the period, she launched a deep 3-pointer. Wings forward Alanna Smith contested the shot, making contact with Clark after the release. Clark landed hard on her kneecap, immediately grabbing her left knee and staying on the floor briefly before limping to the free-throw line.

Despite the pain, Clark calmly sank two of three free throws before being replaced by Raven Johnson. She didn't return to the court, but her postgame comments offered a wave of relief for Fever fans. "I feel good," Clark told reporters. "I landed really hard on my kneecap."

Fever head coach Stephanie White echoed that optimism, calling the outcome a "sigh of relief." When asked if Clark needed further evaluation, White responded, "I don't think so." She added that the substitution was partially precautionary: "We had planned for her to come out about that time anyway. It was just extra precaution getting her out in that moment."

Before the injury, Clark showed exactly why she's one of the WNBA's brightest stars, finishing with a game-high 21 points, four assists, and two rebounds. The Fever, however, struggled as a team, shooting just 40% from the field compared to the Wings' 51.4%. Dallas also dominated from deep, hitting 34.8% of their 3-pointers against Indiana's 17.4%.

The Wings were led by guard Paige Bueckers, who lit up the scoreboard with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Maddy Siegrist added a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while rookie Azzi Fudd—the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft—struggled in her debut, scoring just four points on 2-of-7 shooting.

For Indiana, forward/center Makayla Thompson provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, and guard Kelsey Mitchell chipped in 10. But the Fever's 17 turnovers and 15 assists told the story of a team still finding its rhythm.

With Clark expected to be fine, all eyes now turn to the regular-season opener—a rematch against the Wings at 1 p.m. Indiana fans will be hoping their star guard is back on the court, ready to lead the charge.
