Could this really be the last time we see Fernando Alonso behind the wheel? A month back, we had talked about the possibility of Alonso finally calling it quits after the end of F1 2026. And you can’t really blame…

Fernando Alonso has always been a fighter, but now the legendary driver faces his toughest decision yet—and it has nothing to do with lap times or tire strategy.

Could this really be the final chapter for one of Formula 1's most iconic champions? Just a month ago, speculation swirled that Alonso might hang up his helmet after the 2026 season. At 44 years old, he's the oldest driver on the grid, and Aston Martin's rocky start to the 2026 campaign hasn't helped matters. It seemed like the perfect setup for a retirement speech.

But the two-time world champion isn't ready to walk away quietly. Alonso recently admitted that leaving F1 would be "a very hard decision and difficult to accept." That might offer some comfort to fans, but don't get too comfortable just yet. A major life change is reshaping his priorities.

Here's the twist: Alonso just welcomed a new son. And as any parent knows, that changes everything. In a candid interview with Spanish media, reported by PlanetF1, Alonso revealed that fatherhood has completely shifted his perspective. "I have some thoughts, I cannot lie. It does change the way you see life," he explained.

He wants his son to see him race, but spending another half-decade on the grid just to make that happen doesn't add up. "I want to race so he sees me racing. But until he is aware of things, maybe it's a couple of years, and I don't want to race four or five years again," Alonso clarified.

This timing couldn't be worse for Aston Martin. Team owner Lawrence Stroll now faces the challenge of convincing his star driver to spend 24 race weekends away from his growing family. The solution? Give him a winning car. Right now, that's not happening.

The AMR26 chassis has been a major disappointment. Instead of fighting for podiums, Alonso is wrestling with a flawed machine in the midfield. Severe engine vibrations and violent shakes have even caused his hands to go numb during races—a troubling sign for any driver, let alone one contemplating his future.

Alonso told Spanish reporters he'd gladly endure the physical pain if the car were competitive. But in a sport where every second counts, the clock may finally be ticking on one of F1's greatest careers.
