The 2026 NFL Draft is in the books, and while we're still months away from kickoff, it's never too early to start thinking about fantasy football. Our Yahoo Sports analysts—Justin Boone, Joel Smyth, Matt Harmon, and Scott Pianowski—have already shared their top rookie picks. Now, they're diving into the sleeper candidates who could surprise everyone in Year 1.
Kaelon Black, RB, San Francisco 49ers
Scott Pianowski is keeping a close eye on Kaelon Black, a third-round pick the 49ers clearly value. The competition for the RB2 spot behind Christian McCaffrey isn't exactly daunting—Jordan James and Isaac Guerendo are the main names. Black might not have been a pass-catching star at Indiana, but his time at James Madison showed some versatility. What really stands out is his physical, downhill running style. He moves piles and runs with authority. And with McCaffrey heading into his age-30 season after a 3.9 yards-per-carry average last year, having a backup with upside in a Kyle Shanahan offense is a smart stash. Add Black to your late-round watchlist.
Chris Bell, WR, Miami Dolphins
Chris Bell is a name to remember, even if he might not be on draft boards come August. Coming off a November ACL tear, his availability will depend on rehab updates and offseason participation. But once healthy, Bell could be a key piece for a Dolphins team that lacks a true high-upside perimeter threat. Miami drafted Caleb Douglas earlier in the same round, but Bell's fit as a run-after-catch weapon in a play-action-heavy offense with Malik Willis under center is intriguing. For redraft leagues, keep him on your waiver-wire speed dial.
