Week 8 of the Fantasy Baseball season delivered a rollercoaster of emotions—and we're here to help you sort through it all. From long-awaited prospect promotions to the return (and sudden departure) of aces, this weekend had it all. Let's break down the biggest takeaways so you can set your lineup with confidence.
First, the good news: Carlos Rodón and Blake Snell both made their season debuts after stints on the IL. While neither posted eye-popping results, the velocity jumps were encouraging—Rodón in particular sat 1.6 mph higher than last year, flashing ace-level stuff despite some control issues. Both should be locked into your starting rotations moving forward.
But for every pitcher returning, it seemed another went down. Logan Webb (knee), Cole Ragans (elbow impingement), and Tyler Glasnow (back) all hit the IL over the weekend. Webb and Glasnow could be back near the minimum, but Ragans' elbow impingement is trickier. According to Baseball Prospectus, only about a third of pitchers with that diagnosis return within four weeks, while others miss months. Expect a longer absence and plan accordingly.
As if that weren't enough, breakout star Taj Bradley also landed on the IL with a pec injury. The initial MRI came back clean, and he's seeking a second opinion from Dr. Keith Meister, but it's another tough blow for a position already thin on reliable arms.
And about Spencer Strider: we told you not to overreact to his first start out of Coors Field. This weekend, he silenced the doubters by shutting down the Dodgers over six innings of one-hit ball, striking out eight with just two walks. The ace is back.
As you set your Week 8 lineups, keep these moves in mind. The season is a marathon, not a sprint—and this week's setbacks could be next week's opportunities.
