The Florida A&M Rattlers are staying close to home for the NCAA Softball Tournament, and the excitement is palpable. On Sunday, May 10, the team gathered for a selection show watch party at Bragg Memorial Stadium, erupting in cheers as they learned their postseason destination: the Florida Gators' Gainesville Regional.
This marks FAMU's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017, a milestone made possible by their dramatic run to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship. The Rattlers clinched an automatic bid with a thrilling 2-1 walk-off victory over Southern in Gulfport, Mississippi, on Saturday, May 9. It was a historic moment—the program's first SWAC title since joining the conference in the 2021-2022 season, after falling short in the championship round to Jackson State in each of the previous two years.
Now, with a 32-20 record, FAMU enters a competitive four-team double-elimination regional at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The field includes host Florida, along with Georgia Tech and Texas State, with games running from Friday, May 15, through Sunday, May 17.
The Rattlers are powered by a standout roster headlined by SWAC Player of the Year Amari Brown and SWAC Tournament MVP Samantha Smith. Both players are versatile forces as pitchers and utility athletes, making an impact on offense and defense. Other key contributors earning SWAC honors include Zoryana Hughes, Neriah Lee, Keeleigh Spooner, and Jamison Townsend.
For a program on the rise, this regional is more than just a tournament—it's a chance to showcase their grit on a national stage. Whether you're a die-hard Rattler fan or just love the thrill of postseason softball, this is a team worth watching as they aim to make noise in Gainesville.
