The Rattlers are roaring! Florida A&M softball has captured its first-ever Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament Championship, punching a historic ticket to the NCAA Tournament. In a heart-stopping finale on Saturday, May 9, FAMU defeated Southern University 2-1 in walk-off fashion, bringing the coveted trophy to "The Highest of Seven Hills."

It was a moment of pure drama at the bottom of the seventh inning. With the game tied and pressure mounting, Braxtyn Battle stepped up to the plate and delivered a clutch single to left field. That hit advanced Samantha Smith and brought Kiara Beltre racing home for the winning run, sending the Rattlers' dugout into a frenzy.

This championship marks a significant milestone for FAMU, which joined the SWAC in 2021. The Rattlers had come agonizingly close in the previous two seasons, falling to Jackson State in the tournament finals both times. This year, they turned heartbreak into triumph, outhitting Southern 7-2 in the decisive game. Kiara Beltre led the offensive charge with two hits, while Samantha Smith pitched a complete seven-inning gem, earning the win and solidifying her place in Rattlers history.

For a team that has been building toward this moment, the victory is more than just a trophy—it's a statement. The Rattlers are SWAC champions, and with that title comes an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, where they'll have a chance to compete on the national stage. It's a testament to their grit, growth, and the unwavering spirit of FAMU athletics.
