Florida A&M University's golf program has done it again, securing its third consecutive championship season with a dominant victory at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship in West Palm Beach. The Rattlers posted an impressive 54-hole team total of 844, finishing 12 strokes ahead of runner-up North Carolina A&T. The win adds another chapter to FAMU's growing legacy in collegiate golf.
Under the guidance of head coach Mike Rice, the team showed remarkable composure throughout the three-day event. "We were just trying to play our golf," Rice told reporters. "Just keep doing what we do. We knew [North Carolina A&T] was going to come at us, but we were ready for it." The Rattlers' consistency was evident, with rounds of 280, 287, and 277, proving that preparation and teamwork are the foundations of success.
The field was competitive, with Prairie View A&M taking third place, followed by Alabama State, Alabama A&M, and Maryland Eastern Shore. But Wednesday's victory was special for Rice, who first won the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship as a player in 2000. "This tournament, especially to me, being one that I got a chance to play in and win my senior year, and then to come back a couple years ago and finally get it done after so many years of being close, it means a lot," he said. "It's our national championship. No question."
This year's path to the title came after FAMU finished second in the SWAC Championship to Arkansas-Pine Bluff, missing out on an automatic NCAA Tournament bid. The Rattlers turned that disappointment into motivation, channeling their energy into the PGA WORKS event—a tournament Rice compares favorably to the PGA Championship in its execution.
Sophomore Sascha Robinson emerged as the star of the tournament, battling through knee and back issues to deliver a standout performance. Standing at 6-foot-6, Robinson carded rounds of 67-69-65 for a 12-under-par total of 201, finishing eight shots clear of Alabama State's Quade Woods. His closing 65 was the low round of the final day, announcing him as one of collegiate golf's rising talents. For his efforts, Robinson was named the PGA WORKS Collegiate individual champion, a fitting reward for his resilience and skill.
For FAMU, the victory is more than just a trophy—it's a testament to the program's sustained excellence. With three consecutive championship seasons, including a SWAC title in 2025, the Rattlers are proving that hard work, heart, and teamwork can overcome any obstacle. As the team celebrates this latest achievement, they've already set the standard for what's possible in collegiate golf.
