The Atlanta Falcons' offensive line is turning a page, as veteran right tackle Kaleb McGary has announced his retirement from the NFL. The decision comes after the 31-year-old missed the entire 2025 season due to a significant lower left leg injury sustained in training camp last August.

McGary's agent, Collin Roberts, made the announcement on social media Wednesday, which the team subsequently confirmed. A first-round pick (31st overall) in 2019, McGary was a mainstay on the Falcons' line for six seasons, appearing in 93 games with 92 starts. He built a reputation as an elite run blocker and began his career protecting franchise icon Matt Ryan.

Ryan, now the Falcons' president of football, praised his former teammate in a statement: “I truly enjoyed my time playing alongside Kaleb. He was an outstanding teammate and had a tremendous career as a Falcon. We are grateful for the impact he made on this organization.”

McGary's retirement announcement coincides with the start of voluntary offseason workouts under new head coach Kevin Stefanski. His absence creates an immediate void on the right side of the line, a position that will now be a major focus in the upcoming draft and free agency period.

The timing is particularly crucial as Atlanta navigates an unusual quarterback situation. McGary was originally slated to protect the blind side of left-handed rookie Michael Penix Jr. last season. With Penix's status for 2026 uncertain as he recovers from a torn ACL, and newcomer Tua Tagovailoa also in the fold, securing reliable protection for the left-handed duo becomes an even greater priority for the Falcons' front office this offseason.
