The Atlanta Falcons are continuing their trend of bringing in talent from the University of Georgia, but this time they're mixing things up with a position change. After selecting former Bulldogs wide receiver Zachariah Branch in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, the team also signed former Georgia running back Cash Jones as an undrafted free agent. Now, according to Branch, the Falcons are giving Jones a new look—at wide receiver.
While Branch is a lock for the roster as a Day 2 pick, Jones faces a tougher road to make the team. The Falcons already boast arguably the NFL's best running back in Bijan Robinson, with a solid backup in Brian Robinson Jr. That leaves little room for another back, especially one who hasn't put up eye-popping numbers. But Jones has something that could set him apart: versatility.
Jones, known as a pass-catching specialist during his time at Georgia, has never been a workhorse on the ground. Instead, he made his mark as a reliable target out of the backfield, with a ton of experience at one of college football's premier programs. That skill set is exactly what the Falcons are tapping into now. During this weekend's rookie minicamp, Jones has been working with the wide receivers in drills, according to Branch.
"Zachariah Branch says the Falcons have transitioned his Georgia teammate Cash Jones to wide receiver," ESPN's Marc Raimondi reported on social media. "Jones was working with the WRs in drills today at rookie minicamp."
Of course, it's early—just Day 2 of minicamp—but the move makes sense. Jones was never going to make an impact as a traditional runner, but as a receiver, he could carve out a role as a third-down weapon. If he can show value in that capacity, his chances of sticking on the roster go up significantly.
The Falcons will wrap up their three-day rookie minicamp on Sunday, May 10. For Jones, this position switch could be the key to turning an undrafted opportunity into an NFL career.
