The franchise has to make a decision.

The Atlanta Falcons are facing a pivotal decision regarding tight end Kyle Pitts, and the clock is ticking. After a standout 2025 season where he racked up 928 receiving yards and five touchdowns, Pitts reminded the league why he was a top-five draft pick. However, consistency has been an issue—Pitts has only delivered two stellar seasons out of five in the NFL.

Currently playing under the franchise tag, Pitts has no long-term security with the Falcons. If he delivers another big year in 2026, Atlanta could be looking at a massive payday to keep him. But the franchise may also want to see more proof before committing to a blockbuster extension.

NFL.com’s Kevin Patra believes the Falcons will ultimately extend Pitts, placing him among the highest-paid tight ends—but just below elite players like George Kittle and Trey McBride, who earn around $19 million annually. Other top earners include Travis Kelce and T.J. Hockenson at $17 million and $16 million per year, respectively. If Pitts repeats his 2025 form, he could land somewhere in that range.

As the saying goes, you’re only worth what someone will pay. And with several teams likely interested in a dynamic tight end, the Falcons can’t afford to wait too long. The talent is undeniable, but Atlanta may want to see a little more consistency before writing a long-term check. Still, expect the Falcons to lock him up before he hits free agency next offseason.
