Manchester United are flying high under caretaker boss Michael Carrick, but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from churning. While Carrick remains a candidate for the permanent job, the Red Devils are already eyeing potential successors for the summer—and one name has Brighton on high alert.

INEOS, United's minority owners, have had a rough run with managerial picks and are desperate to get it right this time. Their last big move, Ruben Amorim, turned into a major letdown. The Portuguese coach lasted just 14 months at Old Trafford, leaving in January with the club's top-four hopes hanging by a thread. After a dismal 15th-place finish last season, Amorim survived the summer but stumbled out of the gates this campaign, fueling speculation about his job security.

Enter Fabian Hurzeler. The Brighton boss was already on United's radar last summer as a potential replacement for Amorim, and those whispers have only grown louder. Hurzeler made history when he joined the Seagulls in 2024 as the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history. Since then, he's built a reputation as one of the game's most exciting young tacticians, transforming Brighton into a slick, high-energy attacking machine.

His team presses with intensity, plays fearless football, and works like dogs for every ball. United got a firsthand taste of his brilliance back in January, when Brighton knocked them out of the FA Cup third round with a 2-1 victory. Darren Fletcher was in the dugout for that one as interim boss, following Amorim's sacking. Carrick took the reins two days later and has since guided United to 10 wins and two draws in 14 games, securing Champions League football for next season.

But despite Carrick's impressive run, United's interest in Hurzeler hasn't cooled. Brighton, understandably, are digging in their heels. The 31-year-old German has become a cornerstone of their project, and losing him would be a massive blow. For now, the Seagulls are standing firm—but with United circling, this story is far from over.
