Manchester United fans have voiced their outrage after it was confirmed that the FA Youth Cup final between Manchester City and Manchester United will be played at City's Joie Stadium, a venue with a capacity of just 6,447. The highly anticipated all-Manchester clash, scheduled for Thursday, May 14, has sparked a heated debate over its suitability for such a prestigious youth football event.

City attributed the decision to "ongoing construction timelines for the North Stand development" at the Etihad Stadium, which has forced them to opt for the smaller Joie Stadium—home to their elite development squad and women's team. However, Manchester United had offered to host the fixture at Old Trafford, aiming to provide a larger and more memorable experience for the teenage players involved.

The Football Association is now facing calls to intervene, with the Manchester United Supporters' Trust (MUST) and members of the Fans' Forum issuing a joint statement that condemned the choice. "The news that the FA Youth Cup final, a great fixture which has heralded so many superstars of the future, is to be played in a stadium of just 6,000 people is a disgrace," the statement read. "Last time United were in the final we had 67,000 fans at Old Trafford, so allowing this massive game to be played in front of such a paltry few fans is letting down supporters and denying these young footballers the biggest night of their careers so far. The FA needs to step in and ensure the game can be played at either the Etihad or Old Trafford. Time to put fans first for once."

This final marks the first all-Manchester FA Youth Cup showdown since 1986, a contest City won over two legs to secure their inaugural title. Manchester United, meanwhile, hold a record 11 victories in the competition, with their most recent triumph in 2022—when a squad featuring future stars Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho defeated Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford in front of a massive crowd.

The FA has been approached for comment on the dispute, but for now, the debate over the venue continues to simmer. As young talents prepare for what could be a defining moment in their careers, the call for a more fitting stage grows louder—a reminder that even in youth football, the magic of a packed stadium can elevate a game to legendary status.
