The 2026 NFL Draft is here and the 32 teams are welcoming another rookie crop that can shake up the league. The draft also means finalizing past trades that included future draft picks. A big one was the November 2025 trade that sent Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins to the Philadelphia Eagles.

After two injury-filled seasons in 2023 and 2024, Phillips was fully healthy in 2025, playing and starting in all 17 games with the Dolphins and Eagles. During his time with the Eagles, he recorded 28 tackles, two sacks and four passes defensed.

Right now, Over the Cap is projecting a third-round compensatory pick for Phillips for the Eagles in 2027. So it didn’t cost them a third-rounder, it cost them a one-year wait and a few draft slots. Not very much at all.
