The BCCI is preparing to announce the venues for the IPL 2026 playoffs and final, but the process has been held up by an uncomfortable situation brewing in Karnataka.

Big news for cricket fans—the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru might not host the IPL 2026 final, and it's all because of a political tug-of-war over tickets.

Typically, the defending champions get to host the final, which would mean Royal Challengers Bengaluru's home ground is the natural choice after their title win last season. But the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is hitting pause on venue announcements, and the reason is brewing in Karnataka.

A BCCI source confirmed that the playoffs are expected to be split between Punjab and Karnataka venues. However, a dispute over free MLA tickets has thrown a wrench in the works. The controversy started during the IPL 2026 opener between RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad, when Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar demanded that every sitting MLA should get at least five complimentary tickets to IPL matches. He argued that elected officials deserve special access, but the BCCI isn't budging.

If the issue isn't resolved soon, the BCCI has made it clear they'll move the final to another city—a major blow for Bengaluru fans who were already dreaming of a home finale. The board is expected to announce the playoff and final venues shortly, but all eyes are now on Karnataka to see if they can sort out this ticket tussle before it costs them the biggest match of the season.

For now, RCB supporters will have to wait and hope that their team's home ground stays in the running for the IPL 2026 final.
