In an exclusive interview with Get French Football News, former Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Everton striker Louis Saha shared his candid thoughts on the Red Devils' recent resurgence—and why he believes club owner Jim Ratcliffe should make a bold move to secure interim manager Michael Carrick's future.
Saha, who won multiple trophies during his time at Old Trafford, has been watching closely as Carrick has transformed United's season since taking the helm. "He has brought a certain simplicity, a cohesion in the group that suits the players," Saha explained. "He didn't come in demanding, 'This is my style of play.' Instead, he focused on making the players understand a system that plays to their strengths—one that allows them to be a split-second ahead of their opponents."
The former France international highlighted Carrick's deep understanding of the club's DNA as a key factor. "His second major strength is really knowing the place and being able to say, 'This is the way this institution is run because it has always gotten results this way.' That brought a lot of confidence to both the players who didn't yet understand this and those who did."
Saha didn't mince words when asked what he would do if he were in Ratcliffe's shoes. "I definitely ask Sir Jim Ratcliffe to think like me and not only extend Carrick's contract but strengthen his position," he said. "With the support of a few key signings—players with more running in them, more creativity, and defensive potential—and a staff focused on progression, this is the coherent path forward."
For Manchester United fans, Saha's message is clear: the foundation is there, and Carrick is the man to build on it. With a strong spine already in place and a clear plan for the future, the club could be on the verge of something special—if the right decisions are made now.
