The Ex-Yankees player is joining the AL East team's front office after a unique playing career.

In a move that adds a dash of Bronx flavor to the Sunshine State, former New York Yankees slugger Mike Ford is trading his bat for a front-office role with the AL East rival Tampa Bay Rays. The Princeton alum will work within the Rays' organization, focusing on player development with their minor league affiliates.

Ford's journey to this front-office position is as unique as his career path. After going undrafted out of Princeton, he grinded through seven seasons in the Yankees' farm system before a memorable 2019 debut, where he launched 12 homers in just 50 games. His career then took him on a true baseball odyssey, featuring stops with eight other MLB clubs, including the Nationals and Braves, and even a two-year stint in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball league.

This new chapter with the Rays brings his career full circle. Tampa Bay is a familiar destination, as the Yankees traded Ford to them back in 2021. Now, he'll bring that wealth of experience—from Ivy League fields to major league dugouts and international leagues—to help shape the next generation of Rays talent, proving that the game's best insights often come from those who have seen it from every angle.
