Former Manchester United defender Alvaro Carreras has broken his silence on social media, appearing to confirm rumors of a dressing room altercation with a Real Madrid teammate—even as his struggles in the Spanish capital continue to mount.
Carreras joined Real Madrid from Benfica last summer with high hopes, making a promising start to his second stint at the club. But in recent months, his form has dipped and off-field issues have piled up, leading to intense speculation about his future.
The 21-year-old has lost his place in the starting lineup under interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa, with reports suggesting Madrid are unhappy with his attitude. Then came the bombshell claims: Carreras was allegedly slapped by teammate Antonio Rudiger during a heated dressing room confrontation—reportedly just hours after a team-building dinner meant to boost morale for their La Liga title push.
Now, Carreras has addressed both the incident and doubts about his commitment in a statement on social media.
"In recent days, certain insinuations and comments about me have emerged that do not correspond to reality," he wrote. "My commitment to this club and to the coaches I've had has been unwavering since day one, and it will continue to be so. Since I returned, I have always worked with the highest level of professionalism, respect, and dedication."
He added: "I have fought very hard to fulfill my dream of returning home. Regarding the incident with a teammate, it was an isolated matter without importance that has already been resolved. My relationship with the entire team is very good."
Carreras originally came through Madrid's youth academy before making the move to Manchester United in September 2020—arriving at the same time as Alejandro Garnacho. United beat off stiff competition from Barcelona and Manchester City to sign him, a testament to his potential.
Now back at Real Madrid, Carreras is fighting to regain his place and prove his doubters wrong. Whether this latest controversy will derail his progress or fuel a comeback remains to be seen.
