Mike Tomlin won't be roaming an NFL sideline in 2026, but he will continue sharing his incomparable metaphors for fans of the league to consume on a weekly basis.
Tomlin, 54, is joining "Football Night in America," NBC's "Sunday Night Football" pre-game show, per The Athletic. He is essentially replacing Tony Dungy, for whom Tomlin served as an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers more than two decades ago. Dungy announced his departure from NBC in March.
Tomlin, who stepped down as coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers after the 2025 season, has long been viewed as a potential superstar in a sports media role. He's famous for turning phrases like "Two dogs, one bone" and "We want volunteers, not hostages."
He's mostly kept a low profile since leaving the Steelers in January following a decisive playoff loss to the Houston Texans. During his 19-year tenure, Pittsburgh reached two Super Bowls and won Super Bowl 43 in his second season. His career record is 201-126-2 including playoffs.
