The sports world is mourning the loss of former New York Giants defensive end Josh Mauro, who tragically passed away at the age of 35. According to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office, his death was ruled an accidental overdose caused by acute combined fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol intoxication.

Mauro was found unresponsive at his home in Tempe, Arizona, on April 23. His family shared a heartfelt message on social media, writing, "With many tears and broken hearts, yet anchored in the unshakable certainty that our precious Josh Mauro is now healed and made new—living in the presence of the Lord—we humbly covet your prayers." The statement, posted by his father Greg Mauro, painted a picture of a beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, and friend.

On the field, Mauro was a force to be reckoned with. Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 290 pounds, he signed with the Giants in 2018 and made an immediate impact. Over 12 games with four starts, he racked up 28 tackles, four tackles for loss, and one sack. His journey to the NFL was a remarkable one: born in England and a Stanford University product, Mauro entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2014.

Over eight seasons, Mauro suited up for multiple teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, where he spent the majority of his career. He also had stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Jacksonville Jaguars. In 80 career games, he recorded 5.0 sacks and 130 combined tackles, earning respect as a reliable and hardworking defensive lineman.
