Manchester United's summer clear-out looks set to include Joshua Zirkzee, with the £105k-a-week forward now being linked with a Premier League switch to Everton.
The Dutch international, who joined the Red Devils in 2024 after spells in Germany, Italy, and Belgium, has found life tough at Old Trafford. After a challenging two-year spell, he may prefer to stay in England and prove his worth rather than heading back to the continent.
For many players, the Premier League has proved too demanding, leading them to cut their losses and return abroad before their contracts expire. But Zirkzee could be different. He's now being tipped as a perfect fit for Everton's system, with one former MUFC employee suggesting there's "a real possibility" he makes the move.
The Toffees are currently sitting 10th in the table with just two games remaining. A win in their next outing could put them within a point of seventh-placed Brighton, keeping their European hopes alive. Zirkzee, meanwhile, will be hoping to add to his limited game time before the season ends.
His hour and five minutes in last weekend's stalemate against Sunderland marked his longest appearance since December 4. It was also his first start under manager Michael Carrick and just his fifth of the entire campaign.
After missing Carrick's first two games through injury, Zirkzee has struggled to secure a consistent role. He's been brought off the bench seven times and left unused for five matches, totalling just 101 minutes of action under the interim boss. With no goals returned during that period, his Old Trafford future looks all but sealed.
For a player of his talent, a fresh start at Goodison Park could be exactly what he needs to reignite his Premier League career.
