Manchester United are once again eyeing reinforcements in attack this summer, despite splashing over £200 million on a new frontline just last year. The Red Devils' spending spree under then-manager Ruben Amorim saw INEOS add Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Matheus Cunha to the Old Trafford ranks in the 2025 summer window.
While all three signings have made an impact, concerns are mounting over the recent form of one key acquisition in particular. Mbeumo, a £71 million addition, has delivered clutch moments this season—scoring crucial goals against Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool—but his production has hit a wall. The Cameroonian winger sits on nine goals and three assists for the campaign, yet he's failed to register a single goal or assist in his last seven appearances despite starting six of those matches.
He's not alone in his struggles. Amad Diallo, the 23-year-old Ivorian, is enduring a barren spell of his own, having gone the entire calendar year without a goal or assist at club level. Diallo did find form during the African Cup of Nations in December, bagging three goals and an assist for the Ivory Coast, but his last meaningful contribution for United came just before that tournament—a goal in a thrilling 4-4 home draw with Bournemouth.
With the summer transfer window set to open on June 15, United's recruitment team is already scanning the market for solutions. Former chief scout Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that the club is "assessing" potential upgrades on the wings. "I've heard a couple of names of wingers they're interested in," Brown said. "They're assessing their squad, and that's somewhere they feel they want to improve. I don't find that surprising—in fact, I would be surprised if they weren't looking in that position, because they've had some concerns about their wide options. Bryan Mbeumo's form has been tailing off a bit for about 10 games."
For United fans, the question is whether a new signing can finally bring consistency to a front line that has flashed brilliance but struggled to maintain it. With INEOS clearly willing to invest, all eyes will be on who emerges as the next target to wear the famous red shirt.
