It's been almost nine years since Kirsty Gordon last pulled on a Scotland shirt—but that's about to change in a big way. The former England spinner has been named in Scotland's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, marking a remarkable return to her roots.

Born in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, the 28-year-old left-arm spinner originally played 60 times for Scotland before diving into the full-time professional system in England. Her international career with England included five matches at the 2018 Women's T20 World Cup, where she helped her team reach the final, and a Test match against Australia in 2019. Now, after committing her future to Scotland last December and recovering from a back injury, she's ready to write a new chapter.

Gordon's return is one of three changes from the squad that qualified for the World Cup in Nepal earlier this year. Young seam bowlers Gabriella Fontenla and Maisie Maceira also earn their spots, while Niamh Robertson-Jack, Mollie Parker, and Hannah Rainey (who left the Nepal squad due to injury) miss out.

Captain Kathryn Bryce will lead a group that's eager to make an impact on the global stage. Before the main event, Robertson-Jack and Ellen Watson will join a wider squad for a pre-tournament tri-series against the Netherlands and Bangladesh—a perfect warm-up for the intensity ahead.

Scotland's World Cup campaign kicks off on June 13 against Ireland at the iconic Old Trafford in Manchester. From there, they'll face England, West Indies, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka in a tough Group B. For Gordon, this isn't just a comeback—it's a chance to inspire a new generation of Scottish cricket fans.
