The final whistle of spring camp is in the air for the Oregon Ducks. As the team wrapped up their last major scrimmage before the annual Spring Game on April 25th inside Autzen Stadium, head coach Dan Lanning met with the press to share his insights. Entering his fifth season at the helm, Lanning provided a clear-eyed assessment of his squad's progress and the excitement building for the public showcase.
Lanning highlighted the seamless integration of incoming freshmen and praised veterans who are stepping into larger leadership roles. He also spotlighted a classic Oregon tradition: the multi-sport athlete. Specifically, he noted how standout receiver Dakorien Moore is excelling in track and field's long jump while maintaining his primary focus on football, embodying the dynamic athleticism the Ducks are known for.
Beyond the field, Lanning emphasized the unique, close-knit culture within the Oregon athletic department, where collaboration among coaches fuels success across all sports. It's a foundation of support that fans don't always see but is crucial to building a championship program.
Looking ahead to the Spring Game, Lanning set the stage for a fantastic day. "It was a good scrimmage today," he began, "certainly some stuff that we want to be able to clean up." He pointed to ball security on offense and run defense as immediate areas for improvement, but overall was pleased with the execution from both sides of the ball.
He also framed the event as a broader celebration for the Duck community. "We want to recognize next weekend on the 25th for the Spring Game," Lanning said, "a great opportunity to celebrate our military as well as some of our other sports, with baseball and softball playing that afternoon." With a 1:00 PM kickoff and beautiful weather expected, it's shaping up to be a perfect day to see the future of Oregon football take the field and showcase the hard work of an entire spring camp.
