Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick faced the media ahead of Sunday's high-stakes Premier League showdown with arch-rivals Liverpool—a match that could define the Red Devils' season. With Champions League qualification on the line, United need a win to secure their spot, though a draw might suffice if Brighton fail to beat Newcastle on Saturday.

Carrick began by addressing the fitness of key players Matheus Cunha, Matthijs de Ligt, and Luke Shaw. "We're in good shape really," he said. "Matheus has done a little bit of work, so we're hopeful—not sure, but hopeful. Matta's still a bit further behind; he's not involved in the game. Other than that, we're in good shape."

The conversation quickly turned to rising star Kobbie Mainoo, who recently signed a new contract tying him to the club until 2031. When asked about the impact of that deal, Carrick couldn't hide his enthusiasm. "I've been hugely impressed with Kobbie since I've been here. I've known him quite some time in different capacities, but I've been aware of him for a long time. He epitomises this football club—young players coming through the academy, living and breathing the club, with real talent. I've seen what he's doing, especially in the last couple of games; he's been fantastic. The natural evolution is to sign a new contract, so everyone's over the moon, including me, because he deserves it."

As the press conference wrapped up, Carrick's focus remained on the task at hand: a fierce rivalry match that could swing momentum for both clubs. For United fans, the blend of experienced leadership and youthful promise offers a glimmer of hope in a season of transition.
