Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confidently stated he has "every reason to believe" he will remain at the helm of the club next season, despite a challenging campaign that has seen the Reds fall short of expectations.
Slot, who replaced the iconic Jurgen Klopp in 2024, guided Liverpool to a stunning Premier League title in his debut season. However, this year has been a different story. The fourth-placed team is set to finish the season without silverware, and their spot in next season's Champions League is still not secured with only two games remaining.
Fans have voiced their discontent, with jeers echoing at full-time during last weekend's draw against Chelsea and Slot's substitution of 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha drawing boos. Yet, the club's hierarchy has given no indication they are considering a change.
"I don't think I am deciding that alone, but I have every reason to believe I am the Liverpool manager next season," Slot said on Thursday. "First of all, I am contracted to this club, and second, from all the talks we are having, that is my take on it."
Slot acknowledged the criticism, comparing this season to the previous one. "If you compare it with last season, this has definitely not been a great season. Then it is normal that criticism comes. We have all had our share—players, the manager, and others in the club. That is how things work nowadays if you don't win the league."
The Reds have a crucial match on Friday against fifth-placed Aston Villa, where a victory would secure their Champions League qualification. Slot confirmed that Mohamed Salah is available for the penultimate game of his Liverpool career, though only for limited minutes due to a hamstring issue.
After winning the league by 10 points last season, Liverpool are guaranteed to finish this campaign with at least 19 fewer points—a stark reminder of the highs and lows in modern football.
