In the world of professional baseball, the pursuit of an edge has always been part of the game. While we'd love to imagine every player fueling up on beer and hot dogs like Babe Ruth, the reality is far more complex. From the earliest days of the sport, the temptation to push boundaries has existed—and sometimes, that leads to a suspension. If you get caught, that is.

In an ideal world, steroids would be a thing of the past in MLB. But despite rigorous testing and serious consequences, the issue persists. Since 2020, a handful of players have tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs, serving as a reminder that the battle for a clean game is far from over.

The silver lining? The list isn't as long as you might think. Whether that's because education and testing are working, or because players are simply staying clean, it's a positive sign. The alternative—that steroid science is outpacing detection—is a far less comforting thought.

With so much at stake—from multi-million dollar contracts to legacies and Hall of Fame hopes—the temptation to cheat is real. But there are plenty of legal ways to gain an edge: better training, smarter nutrition, and advanced analytics. Most players, with the notable exception of Jurickson Profar, seem to understand that shortcuts aren't worth the risk.

As fans, we want to believe in the purity of the game. And while the fight against steroids continues, the recent track record offers a glimmer of hope that baseball is moving in the right direction.
