Everton heads into the summer transfer window with European ambitions firmly in sight. After a gritty 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace on Sunday, the Toffees sit tenth in the Premier League table with just two matches left. While qualifying for Europe remains a long shot, the club is already plotting a squad overhaul to turn that dream into reality next season.

The picture could look very different if strikers Beto and Thierno Barry had found their scoring boots earlier. Beto’s goal at Selhurst Park was his ninth of the Premier League campaign, while Barry has managed just eight. Combined, their tally highlights a troubling trend: Everton’s 46 goals are the fewest of any team currently in the top ten.

Manager David Moyes is determined to fix that attacking shortfall. With the club’s owners reportedly ready to back him in the transfer market, one of Beto or Barry is likely to depart this summer. But deciding who stays is no easy call—and the debate is heating up.

Moyes raised eyebrows by starting Beto ahead of Barry at Crystal Palace, especially after Barry’s two-goal cameo against Manchester City in the previous match. But the decision paid off. Beto gave Palace defender Maxence Lacroix a torrid time, capped by a composed finish in the second half that showed his growing confidence.

With just over 12 months left on his contract, Beto has made his intentions clear: he wants to stay. “I hope I can be a symbol of hope and motivation to the next ones,” he said. “You see players with such massive talent, and sometimes they can waste it. I have talent, but without effort, it doesn’t mean so much. Do I want to stay at Everton? Of course—I am home.”

For a club looking to build a squad that can push for Europe, keeping a striker who fights for every ball—and delivers when it counts—might be the smartest move of the summer.
