Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has waded into the big question over Pep Guardiola's future. With rumors circulating that the Manchester City manager will walk away at the end of the season, Gallagher took to social media to offer an update. Responding to a post saying this will be Guardiola's last season at City, Gallagher posted on X: “It’s funny that as I’ve just got of the phone with him and he’s said the opposite."

Rock 'n' roll legend and lifelong Manchester City fan Liam Gallagher has thrown his hat into the ring regarding Pep Guardiola's future at the club. The Oasis frontman took to social media to weigh in on the swirling speculation that the decorated manager might walk away at season's end, offering a cheeky update that had fans buzzing.

In a post responding to claims that this would be Guardiola's final campaign at the Etihad, Gallagher wrote on X: "It's funny that as I've just got off the phone with him and he's said the opposite." While it's unclear whether the rock star was joking, the comment was enough to land on the back page of a British tabloid. Gallagher later doubled down, adding that Guardiola "just wanted to tell me not to believe all these malicious rumors."

The uncertainty around Guardiola's future has been a hot topic in English soccer all season. The Catalan coach still has a year left on his contract and has repeatedly addressed the chatter, but after a decade at the helm—where he's racked up 16 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the club's first Champions League crown—the possibility of his departure feels more real than ever.

Guardiola himself has added fuel to the fire. Following a Champions League defeat to Real Madrid in March, he quipped, "Everybody wants to fire me. One day I will come out here and say, 'Bye, bye guys.'" Meanwhile, beIN Sports presenter Richard Keys declared in January, "He's gone at the end of the year anyway. So I mean that's a given. Gone."

Yet, when pressed by Sky Sports on whether he felt motivated to keep building his squad, Guardiola insisted he was "more energetic than a long, long time ago." It's a dangerous game to second-guess a manager who has repeatedly defied exit rumors by signing new deals. His decade at City is his longest managerial stint by far, dwarfing his four years at Barcelona and three at Bayern Munich.

With City still in contention for a second domestic treble this season, the drama is far from over. They can close the gap to league leaders Arsenal to just two points by beating Brentford this Saturday, before a midweek clash with Chelsea. For now, fans can only wonder if Gallagher's phone call was the real deal—or just another twist in the saga of Pep's future.
