Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Kristoffer Reitan were just some of the European-born golfers wearing white polo shirts and navy trousers — the outfit made famous by Seve Ballesteros — during Thursday's opening round.

On the 15th anniversary of Seve Ballesteros' passing, European golf stars made a powerful fashion statement during Thursday's opening round of the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club.

Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Ludvig Åberg, Viktor Hovland, and Kristoffer Reitan were among the European-born players who donned the iconic white polo shirts and navy trousers that Ballesteros famously made his own. It was a heartfelt tribute to a legend who transformed European golf forever.

The tribute hit a particularly sweet note for Reitan, who finished T-2 in New Orleans two weeks ago. The Norwegian has been making the most of the special outfit so far, climbing inside the top 10 on the leaderboard at 3-under through his opening round — just two shots behind leader Matt McCarty.

Ballesteros, a five-time major champion, passed away on May 7, 2011, at age 54 in his native Spain. His legacy extends far beyond his 50 DP World Tour wins. He is widely credited with sparking a European golf renaissance, playing a pivotal role in five Ryder Cup victories both as a player and as a captain.

While the 72-player, no-cut signature event doesn't include a Spanish player in its field this year, the spirit of Ballesteros was impossible to miss. The Ryder Cup Europe social channels also paid tribute, posting: "Forever in our hearts 15 years since his passing, we pay tribute to Seve Ballesteros, a legend of the Ryder Cup and an icon of our game."

As Team Europe looks ahead to September 2027 at Adare Manor, where they'll seek a three-peat, moments like these remind us that Ballesteros' influence is woven into the very fabric of European golf — and, on this day, into the threads of their clothing too. Siempre Seve.
