The ETSU men’s basketball program is strengthening its backcourt—off the court. Head coach Brooks Savage has officially added Graham Sandefur as the team’s new Director of Basketball Operations, a move announced Monday that signals a continued commitment to championship-level organization and insight.
Sandefur arrives in Johnson City with a pedigree forged in the high-pressure environment of Louisville basketball. He spent the 2025-26 season as a graduate manager under Cardinals head coach Pat Kelsey, a role that placed him at the center of game preparation and player development. Before that, he logged three seasons as a student manager at Louisville, where he sharpened his skills in film breakdown, scouting reports, equipment logistics, and live-game statistics—the kind of hands-on experience that translates directly to a program’s daily rhythm.
Coach Savage didn’t hold back his enthusiasm, noting that Sandefur comes with a strong recommendation from Kelsey and a clear understanding of the standards that drive a winning culture. “He knows what it takes to operate at a high level,” Savage said. “He’s been around it, and he gets what we’re building here.”
A native of Owensboro, Kentucky, Sandefur brings not just experience but academic horsepower. He earned dual bachelor’s degrees in business administration and sport administration from Louisville in 2025 and is currently pursuing an MBA. That blend of operational know-how and business acumen makes him a natural fit for a role that keeps the engine of the program running smoothly—from travel logistics to practice planning to player support.
For ETSU fans, this hire is another sign that the Bucs are stacking talent both on the roster and behind the scenes. As the program continues to build momentum under Savage, having someone like Sandefur in the operations chair could be the kind of quiet but crucial upgrade that makes a difference when the games get tight.
