The World Cup stage is where legends are born, and according to Brazil's assistant coach Davide Ancelotti, the next name to watch is Chelsea's teenage sensation, Estevao Willian. In a bold prediction, Ancelotti has tipped the 18-year-old winger to be the surprise package of this summer's tournament in North America.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Euro Leagues podcast, Ancelotti, who will be part of his father Carlo's coaching staff for Brazil, singled out the rising star. "The guy that will surprise you is someone that is not so well known," he said. "We have a lot of attacking talent with different profiles. And if I have to give you a name, Estevao is one of the rising talents of Brazil."
The praise comes with good reason. Despite his youth, Estevao has already made a significant impact. After a £29 million move from Palmeiras last summer, he has netted eight goals and provided four assists in 34 appearances for Chelsea. His international pedigree is equally promising, with five goals in just 11 caps for Brazil since his debut at 17.
Ancelotti was effusive in his assessment, highlighting the youngster's clinical edge. "He is a really big talent... a really good finisher, so he is someone that can dominate in Europe as a talent for the next years." This potential was on full display last weekend when he found the net in Chelsea's 7-0 FA Cup quarter-final rout of Port Vale.
Estevao's path to this point has been remarkable. Before his move to England, he shattered a record held by Neymar at Santos, becoming the first under-18 player in the Brazilian top flight to record a combined 20 goals and assists. With the World Cup fast approaching, all eyes will be on whether this prodigious talent can translate his club form onto the global stage and become Brazil's next great attacking revelation.
