The Dallas Cowboys found themselves in a great position. They were able to move up one spot to get maybe the best player in the draft, Caleb Downs from Ohio State.
It was a shocker to some that several teams passed on the All-American cornerback, and he fell so to speak into Jerry Jones’ lap.
One NFL analyst said the Cowboys have already won the draft with the Downs pick.
Peter Schrager naturally loved the pick; he also liked the Cowboys' second first-round pick.
"If I'm giving out a grade right now, the Dallas Cowboys have already won the draft. The value of getting a player this late for a team that needed so badly, this is everything...it's like the stars aligned."
The Cowboys filled a need with Downs. They were terrible on defense last year, but especially in the secondary.
He is athletic and smart, and he shows leadership qualities that the Cowboys missed last year when Micah Parsons was traded.
The Cowboys always draft well, and at least in this first round, this year, it was no exception.
It will be interesting to see, however, how they will build on the momentum from last night.
