Manchester United have reportedly made a definitive decision regarding the future of goalkeeper Andre Onana, despite his improved form during a loan spell in Turkey. The Premier League giants, who invested £47.5 million to bring the Cameroonian shot-stopper from Inter Milan in 2023, are not planning to reintegrate him into their squad for next season.

Onana's time at Old Trafford was marked by inconsistency, with costly errors becoming a recurring theme across two difficult campaigns. This prompted United to seek a replacement last summer, bringing in Sanne Lammens, who has since proven to be a reliable and excellent addition between the posts.

Currently on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor, Onana has experienced a mixed but largely positive spell, particularly when compared to his struggles in Manchester. While he has shown flashes of his quality, United's hierarchy appears set on moving forward without him.

According to ESPN journalist Rob Dawson, the club has no intention of including Onana in their plans for the upcoming season. This means the 102-appearance Red will only return to Carrington temporarily this summer, with the primary objective being to find a permanent new home.

Trabzonspor's president has expressed a desire to keep Onana beyond the current campaign, but questions remain over whether the Turkish club can afford the deal and if the player would be willing to extend his stay. The biggest hurdle, however, appears to be Onana's hefty salary. Notably, the absence of Champions League football reduced his wages this season, but with United securing their place in Europe's elite competition, his salary is set to increase again next term.

As United prepare to compete on multiple fronts, securing a reliable backup to Lammens remains a priority. For Onana, the search for a new club continues, with his future still very much up in the air as the summer transfer window approaches.
