ESPN analyst Rich Cimini recently made a bold claim about New York Jets rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik that doesn't quite hold up under scrutiny. While the Jets aren't expected to contend for a Super Bowl or even a playoff spot this season, that doesn't mean they can't have a successful year—especially on offense.

The real story for Jets fans should be the development of rookies like wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and tight end Kenyon Sadiq. Klubnik, a fourth-round pick, isn't expected to be a major factor in 2026. But Cimini took it a step further, saying that if Klubnik sees the field at all this season, "something went terribly wrong" for New York.

That's a tough take. Sure, Geno Smith is the clear starter, and the Jets would love for him to play every snap. But in today's NFL, backup quarterbacks are almost guaranteed to see action. Smith has a history of injuries, and unless the Jets sign a veteran like Russell Wilson or make a trade, Klubnik is their best option behind center.

Even a brief injury—a week, a drive, or a single play—could put Klubnik on the field. And let's not forget the possibility of a late-season evaluation. If the Jets are out of contention and want to see what they have in their rookie signal-caller, giving Klubnik some snaps wouldn't be a sign of disaster. It would be smart roster management.

Klubnik may not be a star, but calling his playing time a sign of "terrible" circumstances? That's a stretch. In a league where backup QBs are always one hit away from action, Klubnik's chance to play is more realistic than Cimini suggests.
