Emma Raducanu is reuniting with the coach who guided her to one of the most stunning Grand Slam victories in tennis history. Andrew Richardson, the man in her corner during her fairytale U.S. Open title run in 2021, will once again join forces with the British star.

The partnership takes effect immediately, with Richardson set to begin work with Raducanu this Friday in France, ahead of the Strasbourg International—a WTA 500 event kicking off on Sunday. It's a move that signals Raducanu's intent to recapture the fearless, aggressive style that made her a household name.

Richardson, a 52-year-old former world No. 133 from Great Britain, was let go just days after Raducanu's historic victory in New York, where she became the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam title. Since then, he has been coaching at the Ferrer Tennis Academy in La Nucía, Spain. Raducanu trained briefly with him there in April, though she downplayed a permanent reunion at the time.

"I'm grateful to have reconnected with someone who has known me for over a decade now," Raducanu said in a statement Friday. "Looking forward to building together one iteration at a time."

The 22-year-old has been without a permanent coach since parting ways with Francisco Roig in January, following a disappointing Australian Open. That split came after a tough loss to Anastasia Potapova, where Raducanu openly admitted she wanted to return to the fearless, attacking game that brought her early success.

This latest reunion continues a pattern for Raducanu, who has worked with nine different coaches in her professional career. She often turns to familiar faces: last year, she linked up with former coach Mark Petchey on an ad hoc basis, and before that, she worked with childhood coach Nick Cavaday from December 2023 to January 2025. After Roig's departure, hitting partner Alexis Canter stepped in temporarily. Roig, notably, has since moved on to coach world No. 1 Iga Świątek.

Raducanu's recent court time has been limited. She has been sidelined by a post-viral illness that first emerged at the Transylvania Open in early February, and hasn't competed in over two months since the BNP Paribas Open. With Richardson back in her corner, the hope is that a familiar hand can help her rediscover the magic that once captivated the tennis world.
