The Rome Open draw is out, and it's already serving up some serious drama. Emma Raducanu, the British No. 1, is gearing up for a potential blockbuster rematch with Coco Gauff in the third round—the same American who ended her run at this tournament last year in the fourth round.

Raducanu hasn't stepped on court since Indian Wells in March, sidelined by a lingering viral illness that has delayed the start of her clay-court season. A nagging right hand injury also forced her to withdraw from the Madrid Open last week, adding to what has been a stop-start 2026 campaign. But she's slated to compete in Rome, where she'll enter in the second round after a first-round bye, facing either world No. 72 Solana Sierra or a qualifier.

This is the final WTA 1000 event before the French Open, and the stakes couldn't be higher. All of the top 20 players are in the draw, including reigning Roland-Garros champion Coco Gauff, who will open against Yulia Putintseva or Tereza Valentova. Raducanu is in a stacked quarter alongside Gauff, defending Rome champion Jasmine Paolini, and rising star Mirra Andreeva—who has been on fire this clay season, winning Linz and finishing runner-up in Madrid. If Raducanu replicates her strong form from last year, Andreeva could be waiting in the quarter-finals.

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka is in Raducanu's half and will face either 2021 French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova or Elsa Jacquemot. Meanwhile, four-time Roland-Garros champion Iga Swiatek has yet to hit her usual stride this season and faces a tough draw, with Emma Navarro potentially in the third round and Naomi Osaka in the fourth.

British No. 3 Katie Boulter opens against Eva Lys, with a potential second-round clash against Osaka on the line. On the men's side, British No. 1 Cameron Norrie—fresh off a Barcelona Open quarter-final run on clay—has a bye to the second round. Jack Draper, however, is out for the remainder of the clay season as he continues to battle injuries. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, riding a record five consecutive Masters 1000 titles, leads the men's field.

With the French Open just around the corner, Rome is the ultimate proving ground. Will Raducanu shake off the rust and make a deep run? Or will Gauff and Andreeva continue their dominance? The clay court season is heating up, and we can't wait to see how it unfolds.
